Old dogs learning new tricks
Hola amigos
We spent yesterday pulling out the starter and disassembling it. It was hot, hot dirty work. I have a new start solenoid on order but it takes time to get parts here, so we decided to move onto other projects. The next one was the install of the big 160 amp alternator. So that meant another hot day inside. Well after some thinking and a few cold ones, we decided to defer that job and install air conditioning on the boat. We are learning.
Here it is. This wonderfull unit came off of Pierre and Leslie Hunter 38. I hauled it back down to Mexico as overweight luggage. P&L sailboat came from Mexico and they did not need it in Vancouver. My new boat came from Seattle and has multiple heaters onboard which I did not need. So a logical swap.
We removed an diesel stove heater to make room for the AC. We plumbed in a new sea water pump to feed the ac unit and some new wiring.
I now need to find a local to build me a box seat to go around the unit.
Neil is still runnig around muttering is spanish. Now he saying maldito gato.
Had to translate. Yikes Dead Cat and F*cking cat. Oh I agree. We have been cleaning up cat hair for over a week.
I ordered a Bissel upholstery vacuum to do the cushions. No pets on sailboats for me.
Here is the starter with the solenoid removed.
Finally time for a break with some good food and music at La Cruz Inn.
Cheers
Jeff
Great AC swap! Save some projects for next week😊
Have no fear. There is lots left to do.
